The Peugeot IOn


The iOn is Peugeot?s contribution to the all electric car market. It was designed and developed in corporation with Mitsubishi Motor Cars which resulted in the Mitsubishi iMiEV and the Citroen C-Zero models too. The main difference between the three models is the different exterior, different interior styling and varying prices.

The new Peugeot iOn expands Peugeot?s small-vehicle offering with this new 100% electric vehicles. It is designed to facilitate urban mobility: small size, quick charging and with sufficient range for daily commutes.

In all three models there is an electric motor which delivers 47 kilowatts or 64 horsepower from 3,000 to 6,000 rpm. Its maximum torque is 180 Nm from 0 to 2,000 rpm. The motor is powered by lithium-ion batteries, located in the centre of the vehicle.

The all electric models have a maximum speed of 81 mph, does 0 to 62 mph in 15seconds and 37 to 56 mph in 6 seconds. The range of the car is 81 miles, enough to accommodate a daily commute. The Peugeot iOn offers great practicality too with four seats and a boot that has 166 litres of volume. Standard features include power steering, ESP, six airbags, telematics, and independent housing for emergency and air conditioning.

It takes only six hours to fully charge the battery with a 220 Volt electrical outlet. However, via an external 400 V terminal at 125 A, it is possible to recharge the vehicle to 80% in 30 minutes. The car is designed to be easy to use. The driver only has to turn the ignition key and a beep announces the start of the car. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission.
