It?s been a record-breaking start to 2011 for Mercedes Benz after achieving its largest ever January share of the UK car market. The company?s sales grew by almost 25% compared with January last year and captured 4% of the overall market which is its best January performance since records began. Mercedes Benz is maintaining its impressive sales drive in the UK, at 3.7%, its share of the overall market in 2010 was its highest ever. January's 4% figure represents a remarkable achievement for the brand, which has recorded a consistent opening month market share of 2.9% for the past two years. The new Mercedes C-Class in Harrogate led the way, with sales up by 28%, the Mercedes Benz C-Class Estate with a 56.9% increase compared with January 2010 and the sales of the spacious Mercedes Benz E-Class Estate also grew by almost 10%. The sporty Mercedes Benz SLK-Class Roadster is still a popular car with sales rising by 22.4%, and the new Mercedes Benz SLS AMG also played its part by outperforming the Italian, British and German models in the supercar sector. Gary Savage, Managing Director, Mercedes Benz Cars, described the record January achievement as an outstanding performance: "Seizing this growing share of the rising UK car market was an outstanding landmark performance by Mercedes Benz, its sales teams around the country and its retailer network. What's more it continues our record-breaking market share set last year and has been achieved even before we introduce our improved new generation C-Class models, due here in March, and this year's all-new arrivals, the latest CLS Coupe, C-Class Coupe and SLK."
